Wooden floor cleaning

The wooden floor needs regular cleaning. There are three stages:

  1. Sweep – weekly, at least
  2. Microfibre dry mop – monthly
  3. Microfibre damp mop – monthly

Sweep

Sweeping can mostly be done by Calvin. However, if there are leaves or lots of soil in the house, I would do a manual sweep first using the large wooden broom. This is the most important stage because grit will damage the flooring.

Dry mop

The green dry mop collects small particles and dust very efficiently. You can wash it at 30°C, with no conditioner and drip dry, because it is made with microfibres. I have never washed it – I just shake it out in the garden.

You can adjust the handle length (see below).

Damp mop

The white damp mop is used on the same handle. The mop handle is telescopic. Twist to adjust. Minimum length shown is here.

Start damp mopping at one end of the house. Spray the floor cleaner sparingly across 2 metres or so. The floor should not look wet. Clean with the damp mop. Work backwards to the other end of the house. After each clean, wash the white damp mop (no conditioner, drip dry).

Products and refills

Currently there is one set of these cleaning tools in the broom cupboard of no. 74.

The special floor cleaning products are from Wood Finishes Direct.

The floor cleaner is “Osmo Wash and Care” concentrate.

Refill the spray with 5ml concentrate and 500ml cold tap water.

Refresh

Above is all that I have done for the wooden floor so far.

Wood Finishes Direct say

“Eventually, flooring needs to be refreshed. With Liquid Wax Cleaner the surface is regenerated and cleaned at the same time with Active-Fibre Cloth.”

I have not bought those products.
